It has now been officially a year since I started here at Cullen Scholefield. I began fresh out of University, very idealistic and eager and one year later I haven’t changed, still bright eyed and bushy tailed, as Maureen would say.

Part of it must come down to the fact that nothing stays the same at Cullen Scholefield for very long. We are always changing and developing and trying new things, so it’s not often that I find myself getting bored. This past week has been especially interesting, not just because I spent every night in a different town (I really explored the South of England) but also because I had three new business experiences.

Last week I accompanied Maureen to a client’s office to help facilitate an employee survey.  This company is hoping to make improvements for their employees and thought where better to look for ideas than the people they’re trying to help? As someone who writes about Human Resources every single week, it was very interesting for me to get a closer look at how one particular human resources team worked. I also got to try my hand at note taking. After two days with some very chatty people, my hands still have not quite recovered from the rapid typing… I have to say, however, that the best part of the experience was spending the night in a swanky hotel! Considering the heat we’ve been having the past week, I was glad to have an air conditioned room. If you like the sound of some extra help then take a look at our consultancy services. 

Last Friday night proved to be a treat as well.  As I mentioned in the last couple of posts, Cullen Scholefield sponsored the award for Innovation at the Business Matters Annual Awards hosted by Johnston Press South Events. So Friday night, the team got suited and booted and headed to the Gatwick Aurora Hotel for the black tie gala to celebrate the awards. It was a very special end to a very busy week and gave me a good excuse to wear my Graduation Ball dress again which has been collecting dust in my cupboard since last year. I was definitely not expecting any opportunities to doll up when I entered the working world so this was a very pleasant surprise and I’m looking forward to the 2015 awards next summer.

To top off a very hectic week, on Monday I assisted in an internal assessment centre to find the newest member of the Cullen Scholefield team. As someone who has never attended, but always dreaded, assessment days, it was interesting to be sitting on the decision-making side for my first experience. The whole day was an unfamiliar and eye-opening occasion, but overall proved to be a very valuable insight into the recruitment process. I’ll have to sit on the information of who will be joining us for now, but expect a welcome blog in September…

So I have been completely thrown out of my comfort zone in the past week and it is both a little relieving and disappointing to be sat here as usual writing the blog on a Wednesday afternoon!  As you read this on a Thursday afternoon I wonder if you’re stuck in your comfort zone as well, or whether you’ve had your own little adventure?
