Sometimes old messages are good! So for those of you who don’t recognise the phrase, here is a 1975 message all for you…
We regularly hear from our clients and candidates how tough it is at the top, how isolated they feel, unable to talk freely about situations that they are facing. Well our solution is our fabulous Circle of Peers opportunities.
Maureen and Lisa Jarvis from Permanent Solutions Direct launched a Sussex Circle of Peers event last week – this event expanded on Maureen’s theme of Love your People. Two additional speakers shared their view of loving their people. Chris Britton – Senior Learning and Development Business Partner, Virgin Holidays and Mario Manelfi – Training and Development Performance Consultant EMEA, Black & Veatch were both passionate and you can access all the presentations here.
So energy was released very effectively, but when Mario Manelfi brought a room of 30 buzzing People Professionals to silence last Friday it got me thinking about taking good care of yourself. Mario’s point was: how can you find the energy to take good care of your people if you don’t take care of yourself? He introduced the concept of Mindfulness.
“Mindfulness is the process of actively noticing things,” according to Ellen Langer, Professor of Psychology at Harvard University and researcher of Mindfulness for over four decades. This article in Harvard Business Review makes an interesting read.
You can experience Mindfulness by just taking a few minutes to try and concentrate on your breathing and breathing alone, attempting to not only push out stray thoughts, but also try and understand why your mind strays. It is not an easy feat. Try it!
Taking good care of yourself in this way has been proved to increase creativity, resilience and reduce stress and negativity. So the concept of acting Mindfully or Mindlessly appears to separate the successful from the glass half empty camp!
We recommend you explore this. So come on and celebrate this International Day of Happiness – you know it makes sense!
