Today had an interesting start for me – a 06:45 pick up to go swimming! It was a lovely morning and swimming out in the outside pool was fabulous! Madness did I hear you mutter? Swimming and I go back a long way from my childhood in Africa and then competitive swimming for Zambia. So whilst this may be interesting for you, what has it got to do with Performance Management?
Short answer everything! Driving performance levels up is key in any sport. In the sporting context the individual is driven to do better – they have their own motivation and visualise success.
So the challenge for organisations is to try to replicate that self motivated behaviour in their people. The sad thing is that I believe that many organisations do not visualise their success, let alone communicate it to their people. No wonder we have difficulties in this area. Our next round of Circle of Peers events starts next week. Give yourself the time to come and hear our views and work with your Peers in this important area of People Management. You know it makes sense!
