We are all familiar with the old adage: people don’t leave their organisations; they leave their managers. It’s become somewhat of a cliché for a reason; it’s true!
Managers really do matter. They have a profound impact on the work experience of people. According to research by McKinsey, “Relationships with management are the top factor in employees’ satisfaction”.
In fact, according to the Investors in People research report “The Broken Ladder”, 93% of employees say having a supporting manager is very or fairly important to their overall job satisfaction. The paper also reported that 43% of UK employees have quit a job because of a bad manager, and a staggering 53%, over half of those seeking a new role, are looking to do so because of their current manager. So, managers really do matter!
