Travelling back from the Isle of Man yesterday Carol and I were discussing this. No we had not lost the plot – although this is always possible – two Myers Brigg P’s are always interesting and fun!
We were reflecting on the age old syndrome of HR professionals being too busy looking after their people and as a result neglecting their own development and sometimes the development of their teams.
We see HR Professionals consistently putting their development at the bottom of the “To Do” list. This worries us as how can you give the best advice, the best support, the best insights if you are so busy doing the job and therefore neglecting yourself by not planning or negotiating the time?
Enough of the lecture! Let’s get practical – think Continuing Professional Development (CPD) before you start feeling that we are nagging you – think about how you keep up to date these days. That lovely behaviour from CIPD – Curious how are you demonstrating this? We have a download of these behaviours here – have a read.
Back to the question of are you a Cobbler – are you looking after an HR team? If so what are you doing to Role Model CPD and what are you doing to encourage the team?
If you are a Cobbler’s Child, well how are you using the Skilled Influencer behaviours to negotiate time to develop or the funds to develop?
Do remember that Cullen Scholefield is supporting a wide variety of people on their path to becoming Chartered Members or Chartered Fellows of CIPD. We are helping candidates from other centres who prefer the more personal touch that we offer and we are expecting a large number of Professional Assessment of Competence (PAC) candidates to complete this year. So do take up our unique Respect Review.
This is an excellent offer of our time to review your career and consider your development needs.
